Position Overview : As a Project Architect , you will c reate and support outstanding store design within the new and remodeled store process for Caribou company operated stores. You will p rovide design oversight for corporate owned and franchise store designs working with multiple stakeholders. You will m anage and report on design related phases of multiple projects working with landlords, franchisees, design consultants, vendor partners, and internal stakeholders. In addition, you will p rovide direction and serve as a resource to external consultants through, preliminary space planning, coordination with landlords, development partners, franchisees, construction document management, architect and engineer coordination, value engineering efforts and maintaining Caribou design standards.

This position works within the Development Department along-side the construction and real estate team and acts as an internal consultant to the facilities management team as well as working with our franchise and license partners as a resource.

DOING – What you deliver | Core Responsibilities

  • Ensure overall coordination of the due diligence, design, planning and production phases of new store projects.

  • Assist with the supervision of architectural/engineering consultants and exterior sign vendors to ensure brand design accuracy, functionality, operational acceptability, and consistency of construction documents within designated time frames .

  • Work on multiple concurrent projects beginning with a defined shell space through store space planning, construction document management, exterior signage development and support final construction.

  • Accurately document, track and archive project drawings and files

  • Seek methods to improve cost effectiveness related to store design process and space build-out costs.

  • Assist with design decisions related to maintaining the existing store base.

  • Participate in new concept design development with Store Design team as needed

  • Participate in cross-functional and departmental meetings to verify business and functional needs are achieved with store design.

  • Lead a timely decision-making process to ensure all outstanding design issues are resolved; act as a solution consultant to architects and other outside consultants.

  • Working knowledge of building construction, construction documents and shop drawing reviews

  • Ability to adjust and adapt to change while staying focused on the project deliverables .

  • Is a clear and effective communicator and can leverage clear communication to manage a multitude of stakeholders and partners .

  • Comfortable making presentations to management.

  • Current knowledge of industry trends in restaurant design and retail stores.

  • Has a high degree of personal accountability and deadline management .

  • Highly motivated, self-directed, and team player.

  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.

  • Able to take direction and follow through multi-step projects consistently.

  • Proven track record of successfully managing multiple priorities in a fast paced work environment.

  • Strong space planning skills – both site planning and interior .



  • 3-5 years AutoCAD experience – additional 3D rendering capabilities is a plus .

  • Strong background in project management including internal cross-functional partnership grounded in design.

  • Experience in coordination of architectural, Mechanical Electric and Plumbing (MEP) and interior design consultants to facilitate Construction Drawing (CD) production.

  • Demonstrated experience managing outside consultants.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture

  • Exposure to entitlement processes a plus

  • At least 5 years of experience in architecture with an emphasis in restaurant or retail projects preferred – franchise experience is a plus
