Coffee comes in a variety of flavors, but usually from fruit of just one color. Typically the fruit, when fully ripe, bears a deep reddish color. This distinction earned the fruit the name "cherry" based on the similarity to the fruit of the same name. Just like cherries, there are exceptions when coffee ripens; occasionally you see fruit that is yellow, orange or purple when the coffee is ready to be picked. Do these differences in colors make a difference in the flavor? Again, just like cherries, the answer is yes.

During a trip to El Salvador, Chad Trewick and Brian Aliffi, coffee buyers for Caribou Coffee, cupped (tasted) coffee from the red, yellow and orange bourbon varietal from our producer-partner JASAL. Each coffee had a distinctly different character, running the gamut from briskly tart in the yellow to winy and robust in the red. The orange stood out to us at the best intersection of the yellow and red, so we decided this would be a unique opportunity to feature a less known type of coffee.

El Salvador Bourbon Orange Bourbon is being offered as an online exclusive as an Origin Selects coffee. These delicious coffees are in high demand, so we've only been able to procure a small quantity.

Enjoy!
